Regiment of swiss infantry
MEYER
1744 - 1774
King Charles Emmanuel III signs the 25
jenuary 1744 a capitulation with the Cantons of Glaris and
Appenzel to raise an infantry regiment of one battallion of
4 companies.
Service during the Austrian
Succession War
Meyer doesn't take part to any
major engaments of this war, since this unit has only
garrison duties. The french offensive in 1747 takes
piedmonts in a vulnerable theatre, sice very few troops are
aviable. So Meyer reaches immediately the Assietta ridge,
where the 19 july 1747 it faces the Mailly's column in the
right side of the entrenched camp. The fire alone stops the
french advance.
In december 1752 a new capitulation for
other six year is signed. In november 1758 the capitulation
is renewed for other 8 year. In 1774 two companies are
disbanded, while other two are transferred to Regiment
