The 24 September 1713 King Victor Amadeus
II decides to raise new regiments of conscripts. The units
are raised in april 1714, about them there is the new
Regiment Tarentaise. Raised at Aiguebelle, it takes its
soldiers from the south area of Savoy. It has a total
strenght of six companies in a single battalion. In december
1720 it receives the soldiers of the disbanded 3rd
battallion of Savoy.

Service during the Austrian

At the beginning of the war Tarantaise
has a total strenght of 9 companies ready to fight and one
company in reserve. In 1742 Tarantaise is transferred to the
Alp. The 16 september the regiment is camping in Aoste
Valley with the column that had to reach the petite San
Bernard gap, in order to clear the Savoy from an invading
spanish army. The gamble is successfull and the savoyard
country is reconquered. The spanish troops are again on the
offensive at the end of the year; Tarantaise has to fight at
the redoubt of Saint Baldouf the 19 december, where it is
compalled b the spanish troops to leave the fortification.
The 27 december the whole sabaudian army is retreatring from
Savoy to Piedmont. In october 1743 the combined french and
spanish army lauches a great autumnal offensive in Varaita
Valley. The defensive piedmontese line is around the village
of Chateau Dauphin and the hight mountain above it. The
enemy forces are not able to break the defensive line down
on the Valley, so spanish units, the 8 october, try to
outflank the sabaudian army jumping over the Battagliola
Peak but they found the fire and the steel of many
piedmontese regiments. About them, there is, near the
regiment Guibert, our Tarentaise. The follow year the
combined french-spanish army are again on the offensive. The
first great stricke is on the Mediterrean theatre, against
the Harbour of Villefranche, the 19 and 20 april 1744. The
first allied assault is able to break the piemontese
entrenched line and conquer the central position of Collet
de Villefranche. After a fierce resistence, from the saved
positions of Mount Rouge grenadiers of Terantaise, with
others grenadier companies fron Regiments Saluces,
Bourgsdorff and Guibert, retake Mont Gros and the Collet de
Villefranche. Anwhere the next da the Harbour is abandoned
to the enemy except the Citadel of Villefranche. From the
Harbour of Oneglia on ligurian sea, Tarentaise reaches the
Varaita Valley, where it is a spectator of the defeat of
Pierrelongue (19 july 1744). Then it is campaign with the
whole piedmontese army, and during the siege of Cuneo,
Tarantaise is present at the battle of Madonna dell'Olmo (30
